Production [edit]

In 2014, the series was first announced by Netflix and Scholastic Media, and was titled The Magic School Bus 360°.[x] The new iteration of the franchise features a modernized "Ms. Frizzle" (replacing Valerie with her younger sister Fiona) and a high-tech bus that stresses modern inventions such as robotics, wearables and camera engineering science. The hope is to captivate children's imaginations and motivate their involvement in the sciences.[eleven] It was produced by 9 Story Media Group.[12] Producer Stuart Rock, who voiced Ralphie in the original series, stated that The Magic School Omnibus 360° will feature some of the original voice actors in different roles. The testify's vocalism cast is based in Los Angeles, California, Usa and Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Susan Blu as the Los Angeles voice managing director and Alyson Court as the Toronto voice director.[xiii] In Feb 2017, Kate McKinnon was cast in the part of Ms. Frizzle (without clarifying it was Fiona, the younger sister of Valerie, now Professor Frizzle, nonetheless voiced by Tomlin). The series then changed its name to The Magic School Motorcoach Rides Over again.[14] The series was released on Netflix on September 29, 2017.[1] The second season was released on April 13, 2018.[2]

Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton sings the theme song.[15] Phoebe Terese, a graphic symbol from the original serial, is replaced by a new student named Jyoti, as it was revealed that Phoebe transferred back to her onetime school.[16] [17] The episode endings feature question and answer sessions with Professor Frizzle, echoing the segments nigh viewers calling the producer which accompanied the original serial on commercial-free channels.[18] Despite clarifying some creative license taken in the episode, these scenes are still set in a universe with magical vehicles.[19] Among other changes, the students yet wear the same clothes every mean solar day but they do not resemble those from the original series.[20] Three 45–infinitesimal specials were released in 2020: the first special The Magic School Bus Rides Again: Kids in Space was released on Baronial 7,[21] the second named The Magic School Bus Rides Again: The Frizz Connection on October 20[22] and a third titled The Magic School Double-decker Rides Again: In the Zone on December 26.[23] The artstyle was inverse for the specials as the characters have no outlines and the lighting and shading are more detailed.

Critical reception [edit]

Why has this good-natured prove already received an inordinate amount of judgement? How tin this much vitriol be thrown at a creation before anyone has even seen it?

Decider, [24]

After the series' declaration and the release of its trailer, there was initial resistance to the new art way, absence of Lily Tomlin as Ms. Frizzle, and fear information technology would non live up to the original serial.[25] [26] AOL defendant the show of giving Ms. Frizzle a nose chore.[27] Bustle put this downwards to fans of the show being "protective of its legacy".[28]

Despite this speculation, the serial has been critically acclaimed upon release. Common Sense Media accounted the prove a worthy successor to its 1990s sister series, praising its gender and ethnic diverseness and its delivery to pedagogy children about Stalk subjects.[29] Christianity Today argues that the testify managed to keep the "genius of the franchise", which is that the children are almost more intrigued by the complexity and order of the natural globe rather than the magic of the titular school coach.[xxx] Daily Dot praised the series' premiere for addressing the change to the show's construction, putting viewers at ease through the transition, adding that the scientific discipline was made "approachable".[26] The Houstonian constitute the episodes' scenarios to be "pretty interesting", commenting on the academical and moral lessons.[31] The AV Club felt the serial lives up to its predecessor, and contains the same "goofy humor and ease with making learning fun".[32] Another AV Club commodity wrote that the series is "lively, fast-paced, and exceedingly tolerable for adults", and total of plenty scientific discipline to let them to park their kids in front of it guilt-complimentary.[33]
